Jesus, Justification, and Justice

One day, the disciples of a wise teacher were arguing amongst themselves about the nature of God when the teacher approached them. "What are you arguing about, my students?" One student replied, "Teacher, we have reached a dilemma that we cannot reconcile. We have heard it said that God, being purely Holy and Just, requires that sin be paid for. We have also heard that because God purely loves all people, who are sinners, He agreed that Jesus would pay for our sins so that our sins could be forgiven and God's Holy Justice be satisfied." The student then asked in desperation, "But how can God still be just if He allows Jesus to be punished for the sins of another?" The teacher replied with a parable. "There was a certain man who had incurred many debts to a Lender that he could not repay. There also was a Rich Man who had no debts of his own to pay and who had compassion on the debtor. The Rich Man desired to personally guarantee to the Lender that

Fear in Islam

Many writers on Islam have tried to find one word that will best describe the fastest growing religion in the world. In my reading I have found different authors using numerous words such as "justice," "sacrifice," "submission," and "community." The more I study the religion, the more I am convinced that the one word that best describes Islam is "fear." The different actions of Muslims today all seem to be a reflection of the fear that has built up within the individual. One Muslim Moroccan scholar, Fatima Mersissi, used fear as her main theme when writing her book, Islam and Democracy: Fear of the Modern World, seven of her ten chapter titles include the word fear. They are: Chapter one "Fear of the Foreign West" Chapter two "Fear of the Imam" Chapter three "Fear of Democracy" Chapter six "Fear of Freedom of Thought" Chapter seven "Fear of Individualism" Chapter eight "Fear of the

Islam is the world's youngest major world religion. It claims to be the restoration of original monotheism and truth and thus supersedes both Judaism and Christianity. It stresses submission to Allah, the Arabic name for God, and conformity to the "five pillars" or disciplines of that religion as essential for salvation. From its inception, Islam was an aggressively missionary-oriented religion. Within one century of its formation, often using military force, Islam had spread across the Middle East, most of North Africa, and as far east as India. While God is, in the understanding of most Muslims, unknowable personally, His will is believed to be perfectly revealed in the holy book, the Q

Muslim - Christian Encounters

By William Wagner Both Muslims and Christians feel that their religion is superior to the other one. Both are intensely missionary and have an ultimate goal of winning the world to their faith. When two dynamic forces meet head-on, sparks are certain to fly. One missionary method that Islam has used effectively in Africa and Europe has been what is known as "power encounters". A biblical example of such an encounter was Elijah's challenge to the prophet of Baal on mount Zion:. "Let us see which God is the most powerful." The encounter was both public and decisive. All left knowing that Jehovah had shown His power through Elijah. In looking at power encounters in today's world there are three different forms in the battle between two great world religions - Christianity and Islam. They are: 1. Encounters between religious structures 2. Encounters over theology 3. Spiritual and conversion encounters Dialogue and debates, which are common, will generall
